The modern day QUACKS

They look sophisticated and can use the latest gadget in technology but many are little better than the old fashioned quacks. Their 'cures' don’t work but are very lucrative.

I attended the three day Allergy exhibition in London England  where there were hundreds of stands that had set up shop to cater for this new market.  It was a maze of interesting gadgets and ways to help you with your allergies from chemical free cloths, washing powder (half the price of traditional brand names) and even paint that smelled wonderful. It was not surprising to see it so busy since there are 12 million known sufferers in Britain out of its 60 million population (the figure is thought to be much higher) and less than a hundred ‘specialists’.

However, after looking at the Internet I couldn’t help thinking that this new market had created an industry of sophisticated ‘quacks.’ If you just use common sense, take care of what you are eating (eat real food only) and exercise regularly, you could start to see a positive turn round.

Author Liz Tucker had just finished her lecture when we talked about her book ‘Understanding Food Intolerance’: “Food seems to be our number one suspect for ill health today.” She added that after her health started to  rapidly decline, the penny finally dropped and she decided to look at what was in her food.” I am very suspicious if the label has more than three ingredients. I go for the ones that have only one like fruit and vegetables.”

Newspapers are flooded with headlines to try to educate people about their food but, is anyone listening? Some of the headlines:

  • The poisoned rivers making fish change sex due to gender bending chemicals
     
  • Is Salt Poisoning Our Children
     
  • One Pet in Three is overweight
     
  • The Fat You didn’t Know Could Kill You. In main brands like Nestle Coffe Make. Twix, Kellogg’s Special K etc.
     
  • Fly sprays and week killers can double risk of Parkinson’s. Commons perticides dramatically increase the risk
     
  • A Fatty Diet is as bad for you as smoking If you think a muffin and a latte are healthier than a fry up think again.843 calories
     
  • The Super Food Myths.Orange juice with added calcium, potatoes enriched with minerals etc. Experts say they are a waste of monehy. In fact they may be doing us more harm that good say scientists.
     
  • MSG. The slow poisoning of the masses. Now can be added on labels under spices
     
  • What’s lurking in your child’s fizzy drinks? 7 lumps of sugar in your can of coca-cola. 10.5 in 'Old Jamaica' ginger beer.
     
  • Pesticides found on 66% of fruit given out in schools
     
  • Breast scans could cause cancer in women at high risk. A lady in the high risk couldn’t get a scan so she had both her breasts removed and her womb just in case

 

 A healthy recipe:

Tomato hummus (tommus):
 

Ingredients:

  • 1 big tomato1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3-4 dry tomatoes
  • 1 baby carrot 
  • 2-4 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 cup lemon or lime juice
  • 3/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 3/4 cup tahini
  • 1/4 t cayenne
  • 1 t paprika
  • 1 t ground cumin
  • 2 t celtic salt

Process all tomatoes, olive oil and garlic first in food processor.  Add remaining ingredients and process until smooth! As a decoration put slice tomatoes on top. Put some fresh basil on tomatoes as well
